Located in the north of the province of Alicante , in the county of Marina Alta . It has 719 inhabitants ( INE 2013 ). It is located in the north of the province of Alicante, at an altitude of 88 m. and 12 km. from the beach, at the foot of the Sierra de Segaria . Enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate. Ráfol de Almunia borders the municipalities of Benidoleig , Benimeli , Denia , Pego , Sagra and Tormos . It has Arab origin, it belonged to the Taifa kingdom of Denia and passed to the Crown of Aragon with the conquest of Jaime I , remaining as lords of Ráfol, the Murs, then the Sapena and later the Almunia. In 1535 it was erected as a parish with the annexes of Benimeli , Sagra , Negrals and Zeneta. It was repopulated in 1610 after the expulsion of the Moors by 123 inhabitants, it had 26 houses. In 1800 it had 80 houses and 429 inhabitants and the Parish Church of San Francisco de Paula was served by a priest and a beneficiary, on which Benimeli , Negrals, Sagra, depended .Sanet y Tormos , being the center of the Rectory and in the seventeenth century it was the center of the Marquesado de Ráfol de Almunia . They are celebrated during the week of August 15 in honor of the Immaculate Conception and San Francisco de Paula, with religious acts, masses, processions; and recreational: festivals, games, fireworks, cultural performances and popular dinners.
